Top Quality Hot Rolled High-carbon Steel from POSCO The final heat treatment provides high strength and hardness to steel with High-carbon content. This high grade steel coil can be used to make major automotive parts and tools that need to be very hard and highly wear resistant.

  1. Product Overview Definition and Classifications of High-carbon Steel:-
Carbon Steel - Steel that contains at least 0.3% carbon but no other alloy is classified as high-carbon steel.
Alloy Steel - Alloy steel contains at least 0.15% carbon as well as various alloys to improve wear resistance, heat treatability and other physical properties. 

  2. High-carbon Steel Features Processing Features:- Customers can get the high strength and hardness they need in the final product through heat treatment (quenching/tempering). Quenching and tempering complete the changes of the material properties in the metal. Thus, the temperature and time of these two processes are important factors. (*Quenching & tempering: a martensite
transformation for maximum carbon steel hardness.) High strength and hardness can be achieved through the final heat treatment. 

- The excellent hardness gives a better choice for applications requiring high strength and hardness than the low-or medium-carbon steel can provide.
- The high-strength allows maker to produce lighter automotive parts than when using low-or-medium-carbon steel.  
- The high carbon alloy steel can be used in products that must be highly resistant to wear and deformation such as high-speed sawblades.
- Excellent resistance to wear and deformation allows the product last longer than when using low-or medium-carbon steel.

 - When selecting the right specifications for an application, consider the heat treatment after the steel has been processed into the final parts.

 - Heat treatment is a critical part of the production processes performed by the customer. The final quality will depend on heat treatment conditions such as time, temperature and coolant type.

 - The thickness or width tolerance has to be strictly controlled, depending on the application. Therefore, precise identification of the application is necessary.
